"Cat in the Rain" Question on Character

Identify one personality trait of the protagonist. Give evidence to support your answer.

The protagonist,who is a young American wife,is childish.She has a strong desire for her purpose and insist unreasonably.Because she can't get a kitty she wants,she crazily complains her hair type and life style. Especially,she frequently repeats "I want a cat" many times.Her personality is obviously displayed like an obstinate child.

The American wife is bored with her life.There is some evidence in the story showing she really wants some stimulation to get rid of her boredom.For one example,she says"I wanted it(the cat unden the table)so much"three times and finally"If I can't have...any fun,I can have a cat."This means, at least, any cat could satisfy her and makes her life fun.

The American wife, is very softhearted, full of empathy and readiness to help others in their "time of starless". She says "The poor kitty is out trying to keep dry under the table." Definitely, it is very boring time for her. The weather is really bad. Author says "The sea broke in a long line in the rain, square is empty.." Yes, she complains about her hair type and life style, but I would not put it as a fixed personality trait. Probably, it is matter of the weather. Lot's of us are very familiar with this.

The American husband, George, is a selfish man because he doesn’t care about his wife's feelings. For example, his wife pities the cat in the rain and desires to have the cat, but George doesn’t listen to her. In addition, when reading a book on the bed, George doesn’t pay attention to what his wife said. Obviously, George is not a considerate husband, and has male chauvinism.

The definite highlight of the protagonist, who in this case is the American wife, had a weak personality trait. “Don’t you think it would be a good idea if I let my hair grow out?” she asked

“I like it the way it is.” He responds. This conversation is a great example; it shows that the protagonist is not confident about herself, and that she needs someone else’s opinion before making a decision. Also it seems as if the protagonist did not have any control of her happiness “if I can’t have long hair or any fun”.

Maybe there was really no cat under the table, maybe it was a symbol of her, stuck, afraid, not comfortable of where she’s at, and when she saw that image of the cat, she wanted to save it and make it happy.

I believe the protagonist is caring but the way she expresses how she feels in the story is not her personality, but is a symptom of her boredom at the hotel.
When she says "I get so tired of looking like a boy." it implies that she has been tired of the way she looks before, but the current boredom she is experiencing has made her become vocal about it. A vacation is supposed to be different from everyday homelife so from the rain and by how her husband is acting like they are not even on vacation, it makes her reflect on what isn't right about the vacation, and what isn't right in general.

For example the husband volunteered to get the cat, but the way he did it was like how somebody volunteers to get something from a high shelf at home on a regular day. She wants someone to take an interest in her and notice the small things, probably especially when they are on vacation.
