Metaphor or Simile

Provide two descriptive sentences using metaphor or simile (that you will use in your narrative essay). We will discuss the effectiveness of each one next Wednesday.

NOTE: Remember to bring a copy of "Child, Dead, in the Rose Garden" and "Homework" to class on Wednesday.

Metaphor(personification): the sunset casting a net of orange over the rolling hills. (the sunset is personified and the "net of orange" it casts tries to describe the late afternoon light)

early spring wheat dancing on the wind, (trying to describe the movement of the wheat by comparing it to dancers)

Methaphor:

...a knife in my soul. (Describes the terrible moment in my feelings)

Entering into the house a gloomy coldness wrapped me in the middle of a mortal silence. (Describes sadness and death.)

Personification:

Mutism was again the guest. (Giving life to mutism. No words for long time.)

...only a thunderous silence talked to me. (Again terrible silence was around, silence doesn't talk)

Metaphor:
Abdul was such a generous person . He kept me in his house for four months,and he gave me anything that I wanted.

Simile:
Going to visit them it's fair,and stop hiding in the United States like a bear.

Personification: My heart adviced me many times ,knock on me,and said:"do not cheat yourself,I like to see you in a good shape."I didn't reply.


simile:I was standing in front of him as a criminal,in front of an informer.

when i woke up in the morning,and looked outside the window,the sun welcomed me with a warm smile,the red roses were swaying their heads from side to side ,enjoying the gentle breeze.
Those who went to the moon described the earthas it is like a shining jewel hung rotetes in a vast dark desert.
The sun is the lamp of life.

Metaphor:
Her soft voice was music to my ears.(trying to describe how beautiful voice she have)

A burning flame was in my heart.(trying to show the status that I was eager to do something so much)


Simile:

Her appearance was as bright as a lighted candle in the dark room.(trying to show the status that I ignored others when she appeared)

Metaphor:

I felt my head was going to explode when I heard her loud voice.

Sometimes, I believed she was the force to push me out of the big family, or even pushed me to Canada.

I was like an ant in the hot pot everyday. (to explain an anxious feeling)

Metaphor:

A big earthquake happened finally. (A big event shocked me)

In that moment, I felt like an arrow has torn my heart apart.

Metaphor:
In that moment, I felt that we were not the only ones who involve in this sadness, the plants and the walls were sharing us with this tragedy.

(to describe her "lying" appearance)

Metaphor:

Friday of that week -- it was Effie’s birthday -- she came home late in a sweat, steaming hot.

Metaphor(personification):

The mountains open the gate to greet us. The road was running brightly under the car.(reflecting our joyful emotion through personating the mountains and road)

Simile:

There were no any voices when I drove the car rushing to the cliff except Mr. Lu's murmur – it's like a sound of voice coming from a dream.(what we listen in the dream is usually strange)
