Rita was born in ShenYang, a city in Northeast of China and grew up in ChangChun , another city not so far from ShenYang. Both are industrial cities in China. Her hometown was famous for its coldness of winter. It was normal that knee deep snow covered the ground and heavy gust of winds roared. It surely was a hard time for adults, but, for little girl, Rita, it was a good opportunity to gain some pleasure. She had snowball fight with her friends and piled up a large mount of snow to build a snowman in front of her house.

The time flied, Rita turned to seven years old. She went to elementary school to start her education. After college, she found a job. Although she could get a good salary and benefits, she was not satisfied because she felt boring and there was no future. Rita decided to go aboard. At that time, there were two countries she could choose, Japan and Singapore. Considering Singapore was far from her hometown and it was very hot, she preferred to Japan. After saying goodbye to her family, she took off in plane to Japan.

She lived in Japan for more than ten years. During these time, the got married and had a boy. With the growth of her son, Rita began to think about the Education of Japan. In her opinion, education of Japan was not good enough, so their family emigrated to Canada two years ago. Unfortunately, her husband had to stay in Japan to continue his work because the contract had not been completed yet. The couple had to be separated.

Rita and her son lived near Metrotown in Burnaby in initial stage since they moved to Canada and then they settled down in New Westminster. It was very tough for a woman to take care the child without any help; however, now she can smile because her husband will leave for Canada next month and not return to Japan.

To Rita, her father had the most important influence on her in childhood years. Rita’s mother worked in another city and could come home every half year. Therefore, her father looked after Rita and her younger brother. In her memories, her father was always busy. Despite having his own work, he carried them to school by his bicycle, cooked three meals and helped their study. Up until now, Rita still remembers the meal cooked by her father was so savory. Rita learned a lot from her father, such as her independence, confidence, and optimism.

At present, Rita studies English and some other courses like accounting and data management in PALC . Even though she has not determined her own career path , she hopes what she studied in PALC can help her in the future.

Nicely done Mia!The vivid detail makes it a pleasure to read and helps me to better know Rita. What do you think of the idea of starting with Rita in the snow and then introducing her city? Try it and see what you think.

She was born in the city named Duhok, the northern part of Iraq. The city belong to Kurdistan region, where Krud tribe lives mainly by using Kurdish language. Historically Krud tribe has struggled with Iraq and turkey for their independence for a long time. Fortunately her hometown was not affected by on going Iraq war.

She said it takes two years for immigration process to Canada. Under the condition of Iraq war, It seems lucky and quite short period compare with average 5 years in China and 3 years in Korea.

She explained Iraqui habit of living. They don’t drink alcohol and don’t eat pork at all according to religious reason. They like to eat ram and chicken. There is no lion and tiger in Iraqi territory but there are a lot of camel.

She don’t like former president Hussain because of corruption, extreme power in his family and no democracy. Iraq has several tribes and religious sectors of Islam, which has hostilities each other.

Hi Mia, good writing, and I really admired it. But in the second paragraph“She felt boring”? You mean the job was boring or she was bored?

Kenny lee

Kenny lee, one of my classmates, was born in Seoul. Seoul is the capital of Korea for more than 500 years. So, it is a historical, cultural, and political center. Also, its weather is very cold in winter and so hot in summer. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains, and it has a big river which is called Hanyang. When Kenny lee was so young, he had lots of pleasant time with that cool river; he was usually swimming, jumping, and playing with other boys.

When Kenny lee was seven years old, a civil war happened between north and south Korea. They kept fighting for three years. As a result of that war, the economy of the country became very low because the government could not import food, clothes, and medications. At that time, people had severe life, and many of Kenny lee’s relatives and friends dead for there were lots of explosions. When I asked Kenny lee about his feeling at that time, he replied, “I had bad feeling; I still remember the scene of death while buildings were burning, and people dead in front of my eyes.” so it was terrible time in Korea.

After Kenny lee completed high school, he studied engineering in university. Then, became a civil engineer. He built port facilities for both private company and government official. He chose engineering because he received more salary than any other jobs. At the beginning, he did a variety of works related to civil engineering, like, airport, highway, port, and bridge constructions. Later, he chose ports specifically because he likes sea a lot. Kenny lee kept working on port construction until he retire

Kenny lee lived most his life,60 years, in Seoul. The system of work in Korea says that a person should be retired from work when he/she becomes 60 years old. So that was the main reason for Kenny lee to leave Korea because he thought that he had nothing to do more there. He decided to travel to Canada in order to learn English and have a better life for his family, his wife and three
Sons.

The important person for Kenny lee since his childhood until now is his parents. Also, when he was so young, he liked skating , and climbing mountains. In the age of 30th,he climbed many mountains in Korea. He enjoyed lots of beautiful views of nature while he was on the top of mountains. Kenny lee still climbing mountains. He said: “During my five years in Canada, I have been climbed every single mountain in Vancouver.”
Besides climbing mountains, Kenny lee has another interesting activity which is skating on the ice in winter. He chooses evening times for doing that fun activity because he likes nature at that specific time, especially the sea. He always goes to Syprus Ski resort, and he describes the moments when he is on the cable lift of skating as amazing moments for he can see the wonderful scene of sunset when the clouds are around the sun; they both have yellow/orange colours. And the sea looks very calm. So Kenny lee has enjoyable time while he is practising his activities.

The major accomplishments for Kenny lee is when he worked on port construction. It is important for him because he has experience for many important details of building Pusan and Inchan, the two famous Korean ports. He contributed important roles of the projects, planning, financing, construction operation…etc. So, Kenny lee is proud of what he had learned, and he still plans to educate more.
