At this point in the story, “Homework,” we begin to understand the mother’s character better both through her thoughts and her conversation with her son, George. The story is told in the first person, which allows us insights into her traits. After she tells George that his great grandmother was “found as a newborn baby wrapped in a flour sack on the church steps,” she thinks to herself that it is a good thing she lives in the modern era where a woman has more choices and doesn’t need to stay with a man who “broke your jaw.” We already know that she “works from home” (on page one) and, later on in the story, we are now prepared to better understand her wish to be free that perhaps leads to her suggestion that George write about a divorced family. Her unhappiness shows us an internal conflict, one that George is largely unaware of since most of this information is only known to readers through the first person narration.—169 words

In these pages, the story “Homework” brings out a path of the mother’s inmost feeling that we can follow to better understand her rich character through the conversations with her son, George and her thought. When she said “The mum wants a new start. She wants to see the world”, we can know this is a reflection of her truly aspiration. I’m surprised at her straightforward and bold answer-- none of his business, as George worries about his teacher’s thinking. It shows us the other side of her character compared with the beginning of story that she deals with George’s complain prudentially. From the memory of live with her grandmother who is an example in her life, we feel a strong desire that she wishes herself to be free like grandmother doing what she wants to. Several small conflicts between mother and George who rejects her ideas and the “Miranda” looking like useless (her imagination) implies an internal contradiction on that she is helpless and worried about who would handle these problems (even the small thing--cooking) if the real life were to change. Finally we got the reason of her unhappiness, through a TV football crowd shouting “united!” irony of-- “The mum and the dad. They’re not united”

A Great Mother

The “Homework” by Helen Simpson, was an interesting story. In this story the mother is the narrator. Story begins that a mother helps her son to write an essay for his English teacher, Mr. Mottram. His writing should be about “ life changing event”. This sentence is the mother suggestion for her son: “ Let’s have the mum leaving the dad for a change” (page4) the mother convince George “her son” to write a fake story about his parents divorce, in defiance of the fact that they are still married. The description of the writing from mother seems to be her dream life, which is internal conflict of the story. Also she realizes that it is just a dream, because she loves being a mother too. In the story she seems to enjoy being a “work from home” means mother and wife. She takes care of her son after school and during the school time.

I have found what author wanted to tell about the true meaning of homework in the story of “HomeWork”. In these pages, George’s mom have done her own homework with George-- She have decided her mind (to leave from unhappiness marriage) and move forward in her life(A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for herself. When she answered to son, she made herself a promise “You don’t’have to solve everything. But you’re right, you do need something”.(on page nine) Indeed, She brought up the topic of Parents divorce to George and let George takes it. “You explain how football has got you through the parent’s divorce.”(0n page ten) In the last page, when George’s mom said, “I’ve got to get on.”, “I’ve got my own work to do”. George responsedto mom happily “That’s all right”, “You go, I can do it now.” It imply to me, George might be able to understand or prepare himself for this event (parent divorce) that will change his life even though he doesn’t understand it fully yet.

"The Homework" by Helen Simpson is a very interesting story. In the story, the mother shows her love to his son,but also she is trying to gives his son help with his homework and encourage him to do it. She is also trying to tell in the story that a homework isn't always something true. The mother brings out a very intense topic for the kid to write about, but also trying to express herself about her past and how it affected her life. She makes him think about the situation of a divorce even though he doesn't fully understand what a divorce is. There are several conflicts in the story;for example, one of them is an internal conflict between the mother and her time (time for his son and her job). In the end of the story the mother is trying to teach her son that in the homework he can relate his love for football to the topic by saying how it helped him forget the hard moments. We can see how the mother and her son has a good and fun relationship during their conversation.-190 words

Although I can't fully understand , I like this short story very much because I experienced this situation. Helping homework is very helpful to chilren whether you can help or not. the most important thing is do something togather. Nowaday, education system is more and more complicated and difficult. sometimes I met difficult homework not only to my children but me. When I was elementary student, I asked to my mom do homework about calligraphy in stead of me. my mom helped me, so I prepared two calligraphy(one is mom's, the other is mine) but teach liked my own assignment. I didn't know my teacher post my job, likewise on page 1 George groaned " I can't do it " the mom said "can't do what?" this is a typical conversation of every day routine conflict between parent and children. And page 2 parent didn't know how fast time goes by like an arrow their children grown up so fast "I knew as a clear-skinned little pipsqueak". Lastly in page 10, Geoge already grown up in the process of arguing "you go. I can do it now" I think , this story is a kind of grown up story suffering conflict between parents and chidren, through this uncomfortable conflict children grown up and we, parents, are aged. Homework

The short story “Homework” by Helen Simpson tells a lot about a mother who loves her child and trying to help him on his homework. While helping her one and only son she is making him ready for reality too, but he is not there yet. On page four, she is giving him idea to write about “his parents will have to divorce” George is too focused on what his teacher might think. However, on page five; mother tells him “have you got your pen ready? I’m not going to write this for you, I will only give you ideas” this is where she is going to prepare something for him and making him ready for what is in her mind. Additionally, in the page six, “I’m not jealous! I declared “how could I be jealous of anyone working those ridiculous hours? They’ve sold their souls”. This is very obvious that she is jealous of auntie Sharon how she is rich, got a good job and they have BMW. The short story “homework” shows us how a mother thinks about every little decision she makes and how it would impact on her family members. 195 words

“Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans” is a silent film in 1927. It is possible the oldest movie that I have seen.Since the whole scene of the film blurs, the story is still attractive and many scenes are very humorous. The scene of that the servant secretly drinking the rest of the wine is very vivid(This scene is found at 63 minutes and 40 seconds into the film.).The close-up focuses on the servant’s face. When he shakes the wine bottle, he expects to find some pleasant surprise, then he smells it to feel the style of the wine. He is an wine-tasting expert for his long time working experience. His expression is so exaggerated that it is full of drama elements. His eyes and mouth are very expressive. Each detail on his face shows well. The actor shows an imagination of using the bartender job convenience to take petty gain. We can imagine that he often does this and enjoys this. Even it is just some residue in the bottle, it can not influences his drinking feeling. A lovely image of a funny clown fleshes out. Through the scene is not longer than 40 seconds, it still reveals the shrewd characteristic and optimistic life attitude of the servant.

George’s Homework
The short story “Homework,” by Helen Simpson, is about a regular teenage kid that leaves his homework last minute. George walked in and said “I can’t do it. “ He started complaining to his mom. He sat down and started explaining “it’s just so hard” trying to sound like is the end of world. He putted on a dramatic behavior, so his mother could help him and started blaming his teacher. For example, “its Mr. Mottram”, he said to “write About an Event that Changed Your Life”. Mom decided to show a little parental support. George smiled briefly and said, “You know I’m like that, Mum.” But he was not interested in any of his mom’s ideas. Is irony how the mother started to talk about her own life. In conclusion, George doesn't know what his about to get himself into.
