My Experience with Poetry

Write a 50-word paragraph that refers to your personal experiences with poetry. The experiences do not have to be at school, although they may be if you wish. Be specific please. Post your comment here and remember to bring your printed work to class along with a printed copy of your chosen poem.

To help you find a poem, here are three online sources of quality poetry. Remember that you will need to defend the poem's quality in group work that day, so be sure to choose well.

Poems at Slate.com (each poem is read by the poet; a good way to decide if you like the way it sounds)

Canadian Poetry Online (from the University of Toronto library; a list of poets that links to poems from each one)

Poetry Daily Archive (alphabetical archive of poems by title; here you can look for an interesting title and see if you can find a poem you like)

Poetry, with laser-like efficiency, penetrates more deeply into my heart than any other literature. I love its unique ability to make me feel. Reading two or three poems a week is a balm for my soul. Without poetry, my life would be barren, my spirit unfed.

Poetry, is about experiencing the beauty of life, noticing the true meaning of this world. poetry is quite deep and touching. sometimes, I get into poetry so much as it touches my heart. poetry takes me away from this busy world for sometime, and make me use all my senses at once.

Poetry is a valuable creation that captures my spirit to a paradise. This unique place exists only when I read or hear a poem. Lullaby and rhyme balance my soul. Their magical and gentle sounds reach deeply to the bottom of my heart to continue a brand new day.

Poetry is like a way of art, you describe what you see through words and you can feel their emotions through the painting. It is a way of expressing you’re inner thoughts in a large or small amount of words. It is nothing but a truthful feeling.

Poetry is mainly a play of words to help describe somebody's train of thought. To me, poetry means fluidity, packed with emotional understanding. An outbreak of somebody's conscious or realization. It's something that comes from the heart, and can cause an impact on a person or a situation.

Poetry is a manifestation of thought fused with sensory experiences that touches my heart. I like reading classical poetry since I was a child, and it spoke to my heart with manipulative words in simply but effective way. To me, sometimes, poetry is like a secret journal that needs to be deciphered.

Poetry is the mirror of our souls, a game of letters and words, where every word gets unique, deep, and personal meaning. Poetry brings me the message of life, love, happiness, pain, and suffering. Without poetry, life’s messages will stay untold. It’s a unique perspective of ourselves.

Poetry is a very special, creative and artistic language. Sometimes it looks secret codes for me, but can be interpreted liberally. Like as songs, it has rhyme and rhythm which make me easy to read and remember. The carefully chosen words have rich implications, and touch deep into my heart.

Poetry, with magnet-like function, always attracts out some gold in my deep heart. I prefer its strong magic power than any other literature, appreciating an outstanding poem just like throw a stone on surface of quiet river, often come into being ripple, but takes time to recover. (47 words)

I think poetry is a way for people to express their feelings and ideas with passion by the use of unique style and rhythm, and some people use poems to send their message to society. For example talking about how hard it is to live and to survive.

Poetry for me is much more than just words and rhymes. It moves me into the fantastic world of senses and images by giving new beautiful names for casual things and feelings; it makes our reality fairy, unsteady, diversified like under Maya's veil, The Hindu Goddess of Great Illusion
