My Experience with Poetry

Write a 50-word paragraph that refers to your personal experiences with poetry. The experiences do not have to be at school, although they may be if you wish. Be specific please. Bring your printed work to class along with a printed copy of your chosen poem.

To help you find a poem, here are three online sources of quality poetry. Remember that you need to defend the poem's quality in group work that day, so be sure to choose well.

Poems at Slate.com (each poem is read by the poet; a good way to decide if you like the way it sounds)

Canadian Poetry Online (from the University of Toronto library; a list of poets that links to poems from each one)

Poetry Daily Archive (alphabetical archive of poems by title; here you can look for an interesting title and see if you can find a poem you like)

Poetry, with a laser-like efficiency, penetrates more deeply into my heart than any other form of literature. I love its unique ability to make me realize that, yes, I also feel that way. Reading two or three poems a week is a balm for my soul. Without poetry, life would be barren.

Unlike other form of literature, poetry with the sound effect knocks on my heart softly like a rhythmical song. I still remember the poem I read when I was a child and it stays in my heart since then, thus I sometimes murmur it in my free time. I like reciting a poem. (53 words)

Poetry is like weeping; it helps me reveal my sorrow, joy, and sometimes anger. I like reading the Psalms of King David daily to cheer up my spirits. The profound musical verses enable me to express my feelings directly. I agree with Brad, as he says, “Without poetry, life would be barren.”

I like poem. Reciting it, the sounds like a song. Imaging it, a painting scroll unfolds before me.
The famous poems that attained a loft realm inspire and purify my soul. Every time I recite
them, I feel refreshing like drinking sweet spring water. The famous sentences like stars
shining in the sky.

Poetry is like a magician. Its rhythm sometimes quietly sticks into your brain and you would never forget. Compete with other literatures; I like poetry more than others, because it’s powerful and straight to the heart. I still remember some of the poems that I read when I was a little child.

As an saying: “Living without bamboo is vulgar.”, I think poetry can enrich our life in the same way. From childhood till teen, I like the poems such as Tan Shi, Shijing, and the “Stray Birds” (by Tagore). I prefer "The Road Not Taken" (by Robert Frost) now.I like the poems to ornament my life. Poetry is like natural flow of emotions. It is an art of rhythmic language to convey feelings. Other than literature, poetry is a language of using compact words with deep meanings. Sometimes poetry reflects our own expressions that touch the heart and we praise this unique style of language.

I find that poetry is a clever way of expressing a feeling that the poet feels passionate about. I used to write poetry, mainly haikus just for fun as well as witting songs which can be considered as poetry. I attended a couple poetry slams which is refreshing to me.

Poetry, a speaking picture, helps to interpret life. I feel it is blue and belongs with music. Many sentiments are embalmed in poetry. Sometime has an elegiac quality; sometime has a romantic mind. Poetry achieves its finest effects by suggestion. Reciting a poem,I am borne quite out of sight and hearing of the word. (55 words)

Poetry is complicated but then again it means a lot in our daily life. It’s complicated because it takes time to understand it and every time you discover something new about it, it makes it amazing. I personally don’t have a lot of experience with poetry and find it difficult to follow.

Poetry is the smartest form of literature. It needs only few words to give a lot of meaning. It is deep and thoughtful. It is not easy to wright a poem but it is not impossible to do it. Each pome gives different ideas there is no specific way of writing a poem and that is the beauty of it.
