My friend John had a profound influence on my life. When we met, he was already a father and encouraged me to have children (which I did, eventually). For eleven seasons, we hiked together in the alpine regions of British Columbia, almost always off trail. With him I saw more, experienced more than I would ever have done on my own. He lived life as fully as it is possible to live but, sadly, he died at age 48 of cancer. What he built in the short time he had still influences my life, and his attitude that life is short and that we need to live every day to the fullest remains with me, even though he passed away 12 years ago this past January. I look forward to bringing him to life for you during the writing of our narrative essays.—143 words

Her name is mom. Always I call her “mom”. She is the most influential and important person in my life. She had lived with me for a short time before I got married. I miss the times when I was young and lived with her. Even though she is not in this world, she is always in my mind. She is always a special person for me. Nobody in this world can be compared with her. As a mom with two daughters, I realize a little how hard she was during nursing me. I really know I can’t express how I feel about her in just words. However, I would like to write about her in my narrative essay and thank for the fact that I am her daughter. 129 words

My grandmother escaped from mainland of China to Hong Kong with me in 1958. I was eight years old. She brought me out from the communistic country to the capitalistic colony-Hong Kong. The route was excited, dangerous, and terrible. From sailing to climbing, the detective light were flashing around, we were hungry and thirsty staying on an island for two days. Eventually, we had arrived Hong Kong, but we had to pay the fees to the leader of the escapee. In Hong Kong, my grandmother raised me up because my family was not living with us. From education to community’s skill, my grandmother had a profound influence on my life deeply in the past fifty years. Even she passed away in 2001 at 99 years old. I look forward to spill out my feeling in my narrative.—137 words

My friend Jenny is one of the wisest women I have ever known. Ten years ago, when I met her, she was a successful business lady who I was not interested with. One day, I had some questions to ask her because some friends told me she was a nice lady to ask. Actually, she didn’t give me an answer then; she helped me solve my problems myself. She told me that there are no right or wrong choices in life; there are simply better or worse choices you can make. If you didn’t make the better choice, next time you will know which one is better for you. I enjoyed her heart warming encouragement. From that time on, I look to her when I have trouble. She surely has a profound influence on my middle-age life. Therefore, I would like to present her in my narrative essay.

My affectionate father was a significant person for me. I thank him helped to set up suitable values. My parents have five children, four daughters and one son. My father always treated us equally, so I could naturally build equal values. also, he usually encouraged me to become an independent woman in the future. He thought his daughters must become an independent woman with abilities, such as playing the piano, riding a motorcycle, and swimming. In addition, I remember when my husband and I studied at university in the summer vacation. My husband hope me to take care of our children at home. My father encouraged me to enter university. He was like my matron to look after my two sons. I eventually got a masters degree, became a responsible principal. I look forward to bringing him to life for you during the writing of our narrative essays.-148 words

Butterfly girl is the nickname that I call Chanele; she is one of my best friends, totally weird but I adore that in her and how she really helps friends with the right words as if she is writing a new poem. I have known her for about 4 years and have had a number of stories to remember and laugh with her about. We started very distant and while we were fresh each other in our first week, we were given unforeseen troubles but since then we’ve became best friends, sharing each other’s views and friends, really creating a trust in such a short time. Her personality includes being weird, sweet, funny, and honest; that’s who she is. Chanele is a wonderful performer and helped me perform also, though I am shy. Soon enough things have changed but not our friendship. And we’ll keep it growing strong. Simply she’s awesome. -150 words

I met Professor Hongda many years ago, when I was a sophomore. He taught us Engineering Mechanics. He was intelligent, rigorous in class, and vigorous, nice in live. He gave me a lot, not only the science knowledge, the scientific approach but also the attitude to the life. He was good at giving systematic guidance in tutorials. At that time, his face was usually radiant with smiles – kind and honest. He was a nice elder and my epitome. The impression about him was deep stamped on my mind and the influence was so profound that it still encourages and pushes me forward nowadays.
He passed away in the Great Cultural Revolution. Forty years later, the memory of him comes clearly as if my dear professor still in the flesh.

My friend Lena left a deep impact on my life. We were together since kindergarten to university. Our homes were closed, so we usually met after the school and did our assignments together. She was very confident. With her, I learned to live life positively. She often taught me when I was unable to solve problems for the exam. She taught me lot of games. Whenever I go, I tried to drag her with me because I did not feel bore in her company. Her personality left a profound influence on my life. Now, we are not together but we are in contact via internet. We often talked about our college days; we spent together and laughed on our sly mistakes. I would like to present her in my narrative essay.

My grandfather is very important in my life. My life is still under his influence. When I was young, I always sat on my grandfather’s shoulders with my hands carried by his strong hands. I felt it was a wonderful time. He liked swimming very much and because of this, I gradually loved it. Music is one of his hobbies, especially playing the piano. Because of this, I can play piano. He liked reading and because of this, I have read lots of books. He not only taught me lots of knowledge, but also how to love life. He was very optimistic and didn’t give an opportunity for losing his smile. He set a good example for me and taught me how to love in the world, how to study and hoe to love others. In my life he is a highly valued person. My grandfather’s love will never die; my missing him will never die. 156words

There was something that the people didn’t understand about me. I felt as if I had come from another world but didn’t know why. I can’t describe one person who had the most influence on me. It was like trying to solve a puzzle, but only matching unknown pictures. But now, I can see what the picture looks like, and why I had felt like an outsider. Everything in one; the people, memories, and the emotions connect my life into one whole structure like a spider-web. I would like to share my L’Oiseau Bleu (The blue bird) story, though I am still on my way, navigating where I go. - 109 words

My dad is the most important people in my life, without him I would not be where I am today. I have learned a lot of things from my dad since being a little kid and even now as an adult. I miss the times where we would cut the grass, shovel the driveway, and house work. Now that my dad is older he cannot do those things anymore, I do it for him now. Without my dad I would not be able to graduate high school and have a good job. I am lucky to have a dad who is always supporting me in all kinds of situations. I am thankful that my dad is still alive so that we can still do things together because without him I do not know what I would do. Therefore, I look forward to writing about my dad in my narrative essay. -150- words

My uncle was one of those people you meet and never forget. He had a profound influence on me. He was known for his kindness, his gentleness, and his mischievous sense of humour. With him, I enjoyed every single moment of my childhood. He seemed like the happiest person of the world, most satisfied with the life, and always ready to help anyone. He had always been in hurry and often said, “I don’t have time; I have to finish this work today”. Sometimes, I asked him, “Where are you going to tomorrow?” He smiled and replied me, “Don’t leave your work for tomorrow; tomorrow never comes”. I still remember his words, “I have finished all my works and I want some rest”, said to my mom just a day before his death. For years later, my uncle’s death is still painful. I would like to tribute him through my narrative essay.

She is my affectionate mother who nurtured my paralyze grandfather for more than ten years. She was always at my side since my childhood until I came here in Canada. My mother thought me the value of life especially how to become a good person, wife and mother with my kids. How to raise my children with God fearing, responsible, and give them the best education. Now I'm here in Canada, far from my dear mother, but I always remember the good things that she have done to me. We are saying, “Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” Therefore, I would like her to be part of my narrative essay. (119 words)

My dear friend, Carrie, is a great person who has a generous and kind heart. She always has a smile on her face and she is an immigrant from the Philippines. Working as a nurse, she lives well off and welcomes guests to her home. Meeting her in church, we have become friends. Not only had she donated a heritage of land from her mother but also she sent big amounts of money to build a centre where homeless children will stay in her hometown. Also, last summer, she gathered numerous glass frames from her neighbors and friends and distributed it to the people in need to buy own glasses and visited her country with it in her holidays. Her helping for others to live in harmony deeply touched me. I am really blessed to know her and learn lesson in way of living.

My father has the most influence in my life. I always try to learn from him even now when I am 30 years old. I look up on him and hope to be this great person in the future. He used to teach me when I was young how to face my problems and how to overcome the odds and change them to my benefit. He is such a great man that he can survive the situation in my country (the war on Iraq). And bring me and the rest of the family here to Canada to have a better life. He used to tell me to work hard but study harder. Without him I won’t be the person that became. My narrative essay would be my tribute to him.

A good friend is like a treasure. I’d like to share an important treasure and how it has changed my life. Moving to a new country is a huge challenge; it is something new and difficult (which I had experienced). It was hard not knowing the language, the culture, the streets, and most importantly, not knowing the people. When you move to a new place, the first thing, you hope for is to know someone or perhaps have friends. If you don’t know anyone, it can be very tough to get to use to that area. Thanks to my friend, Adam; who I met when I came to Canada, I improved in many ways. He was a very patient, kind person. He tried his best to help me. He was often encouraging me to study and talk to people, so I could practice my English and get to know the culture and more people. I have to admit it that Adam was one of the most influential persons in my life. I’ll always remember his kindness and help. I look forward to telling you more about him in my narrative essay. 191words

My mother one those mothers that you will never forget .She is an affectionate person in my life. She is always passionately encouraged me to become an independent woman with abilities: studying university, cooking, driving, sewing etc…She said, I want my daughter will be a strong girl in her life. Also, she taught me the way to see life, and she raised me strong to make my life easy. Indeed, I moved to a new country, Canada. I faced the roughness of life with smile on my face. This is one of the good impacts. I would like to mention this wonderful person as my main character in my narrative essay. 116 words

“My sweetheart” or “my darling” is the way I show my feelings for him. But, clearly, we are totally straight since we both had girlfriends when we started to give nick names to each other. His is Rong, a friend who can’t be replaced by anyone. With him I was no longer childish. Everything just went fast, even I only knew him for 3 years, and we turned out to be best friend. He is the wisest person I have ever known. He always sees his life with positive attitude. People surrounding him would feel delightful. Even I had come to Canada for 2 years; his way of looking life is still stick in my heart. Therefore, I would like to talk about him in my narrative essay.

Maslow Paragraph
My journey had a important switch when I met Abraham Maslow in a textbook in college. The "Hierarchy of needs", the very famous statement of the great psychologist, has influenced me in the three goals of my life. Maslow indicates love or belonging and esteemed needs are the goals when the basic needs are met. I have built a sweet home with my family and have joined many different groups as members to interact. Maslow concentrated on self-actualization as the highest level in his hierarchy of needs. Morality and creative can lead us to meet the satisfaction of self-realization. I've determined to develop my art career to create many paintings to share with people in art exhibition. Pursuing self-realization constantly is not easy, but I will do my best in my lifetime. I look forward to bringing him to life for you during the writing of our narrative essays. -149 words

I used to call her “Lin,” and she called me “Sini.” My mom was not a warmhearted woman, but she always had a gorgeous sunshine smile on her pretty face. She was a really independent woman: she owned a business, solved her own problems, and knew a lot of powerful friends. Before she hardly had time with me, but I forgave her when I noticed that my mom has given me so much that I can’t ever ever paid her back. For a woman who doesn’t know any English, friends, and cultures, but she married to a Caucasian (In Chinese “Guilao”), and brought me here. We have been living together in Vancouver for 6 years, it is happier to see her every mornings and nights than being a millionaire. She is the only one that worth my tears. I am looking forward writing more about her in the narrative essay.

My maternal grandfather always inspired me in all the odds of my life. His strong personality always motivated me to continue my education and become an independent person.Sometimes as a girl, it was a challenge to get equal rights and values in male dominent culture but he was the only person who opened his arms generously. He not only provided emotional support but financial support too because it was hard for my mom to raise five children, after my father lost all his buisiness in a fire.Gradually, I finished my study and got a good job in a pharmceutical company.Later,I supported my family and siblings to continue their study and I am happy to see that everyone in my family is well-settled now by the grace of my grandfather. My grandfather died in 2004, still his versatile personality is alive in my memory.

On page nine of the story, “Homework” we are able to define mother perspective
more clearly about divorce. Where she told George about his father’s girlfriend, Miranda.
She tells him that Miranda will not care of you as we already know, “she just eats crisps
and banana”( on page eight) . She told her son to be independent rather then depending
on her because she has nothing to do with him. It looks like; she is telling her life story
and wants to get divorce, and she is preparing her son for upcoming irony . When she
said, “ One weekend your mum tells you she’s off backpacking in three days’ time”,
expressing her depression as if she does not want to live with husband any more. Her
unhappiness and inner conflicts can lead toward divorce, and she is not sure about the
later on situation thus she said, “ I think you can leave it somewhere there,” but her son
need something to finish the story. She told her, “The mum and the dad .They are not
united.” telling reader the end of the story.
