“The apartment in Canada is more spacious or luxurious than the apartment in Korea.” A commonly held assumption, though what a disappointment it was to discover that my apartment in Vancouver, where I immigrated to in 1998 to start my new life, was smaller and plainer. 46 words

“Study hard, then the success will come to you.” Normally an obvious statement, although what a pain it was to learn English at Pearson Adult Learning Centre, where I started attending in 2007 to finish the high school diploma , motivated me to be self-disciplined and persistent. [copy : 47 words]

As part of a plan to help foreign visitors understand Germany, sightseeing was arranged on every weekend; first to patrol around Munich City, and then to Bavaria’s attractions. Once Dr. Winzner drove us out and introduced his family: his wife, who is a singer; his childhood, in a town nearby the Danube River; their beautiful daughter Isabella. He asked our studies at his Institute, and about the movie “The last Emperor.” When we run into some sensitive topics, we veered to others. (83 words)

The principal welcomed us and discussed about school's development: their accomplishment, academic ranking and rating in British Columbia; their finances, funded by parish church and government; their school activities. She reminded about parent's participation at the school, and about FSA. When she had delivered those information, we clarified important issues. [copy; 50 words]

Particularly interesting are the Eskimo houses (Igloo): All the house is built from snow. There is no luxurious furniture, nor facilities inside it. The entrance is a small short tunnel to reduce wind and heat loss when the door is open. You have to bend and crawl to get inside.

Extremely enjoying is Canadian hot water: in most places, during four seasons, hot water is provided for 24 hours. Twelve years ago of China, hot water, running among private pipes, only serviced for customers who live in a four stars’ hotel. Homemakers had to boil water for their requirement.

Why do people see satisfaction in such a dimmed city? Back in Iran, before planning on coming to Canada I took an English class. Simple sentences like “please be on time” and “I want to learn how to speak English property in the future” were always dwelling in my mind.

How to have a good interpersonal skill? After graduating from a university, I known that good relationship and strong families depend on these types of interpersonal skills. Phrases like “Two heads are better than one” and “Unity is strength” stayed with me because of their imperativeness.

What an interesting answer, I wondered, where “fine”, like faking a smile, seemed forced. Was it “fine” that a new immigrant couldn’t find a job to feed his family? Must the teacher tell the cashier that she was “fine” after she was upset by her rude students instead of expressing her discomfort, watching careless teens wander about during class? As part of a program to help youth get closer to God, I joined a Parish Youth Camp seminar for 2 days and 1 night. The priest talked about his life’s journey to God’s sanctuary: him as a stupid teenager, who ended up as a priest.

How can anyone not see the beauty of this place? Born and raised in Canada, I had trained my senses to appreciate the land that I walk upon and view. Noticing things like the how bright the stars are at night, or how peaceful the parks are regardless of season, being easy to see compared to the other places I’ve visited.

Particularly surprising, are Korean homes: multi-purpose rooms with heated floors. In Korea, a single room can serve as a living room, dining room, and bedroom. A low folding table is used for meals while the bedding is stacked in large closets for later use.
