Cluttered Mise-en-Scene

The scene(s) where Wall-E and Eve are in the hallways with the other robots are good examples of cluttered mise-en-scene. Certainly, this communicates to us the chaotic nature of the robot chase. In fact, I sometimes found it pretty tiring at times and looked forward to something simpler and easier on the eyes. The filmmaker seemed to be using these scenes for both comedy and to emphasize the danger to Wall-E and Eve.--73 words

Reaction:

Although Wall-E continues to charm me on my fifth viewing, it also always brings tears to my eyes. It seems strange to say it (but I can't seem to stop myself no matter how hard I try) and I feel that I'm being too sentimental. Why then do I cry? I believe that, although the movie presents us with a unique and unusual love story, the main intent is to alert us to the serious danger we face on planet earth. Through exaggeration, Andrew Stanton (the film’s writer and director) forces us to take a hard look at ourselves. How much are we in the year 2009 already like the residents of the Axiom space ship? When I see the scenes where one person floats in a chair speaking through his screen to the person who is immediately beside him, I feel uncomfortable. It’s not hard to see the point when Wall-E interrupts a couple of the Axiom residents and they begin to notice things around them they hadn’t noticed before (“I didn’t know we had a pool!”). Perhaps my tears come because I know that the attractiveness of the distractions we face are more than any person by themselves can withstand. That leaves me feeling hopeless rather than hopeful, as if I am witnessing a last call to our species, one I am sure we will miss. Thus, although the movie is often funny, it is just as often heartbreaking, notwithstanding its happy ending (which is pretty Hollywood, actually, and not one I like).--255 words

Zoom and Dollying

The frequently used technique in movie “Wall-E” is Zoom(in or out). At the beginning of the movie, we see the desolate earth through zooming out: the abandoned buildings, the empty streets, and the dumping ground. As the camera slowly zooming in, then we find the small rusty robot--Wall-E: lonely but faithful to his duty. This technique creates strong visual contrast to the audience. The other technique used in the movie is dollying. The camera moves alongside the robot, when Wall-E walks nimbly to clean up the human mess, and when he hastily chases the other robot—Eve. Through this way, the movie shows us a very lovely and romantic nonhuman creature.

Reaction:

The movie “Wall-E” brings me tears. It is not only because of the love adventure of two robots, but also because of the prediction of future world. The story illustrates a picture of human fate: when we finally use up our natural resources, we will have to leave our earth to find another planet to live. In the movie, human being lives in a massive spaceship. Their lives seem perfect but actually absurd. Relying on the “advanced” technologies, they nearly lost their basic survival skills such as cooking, walking, and even thinking. Everything is done by robots or the assembly line. In this “perfect” world, human being is “hypnotized” by self-satisfaction: they rely on high technologies; they perpetually produce more and more waste to the universe; they don’t care about the nature; and furthermore, they live their lives with unconcern for others. Only on this background of the human degeneration, the true love of two robots become so touching. Because it reminds us of the feeling our human being once possessed but no longer owned in this very situation. Although the movie shows this future world in a funny way, however, this black humor brings me a sudden realization: we have to do something to safe our earth before it is too late. Our environment is deteriorating; our population is exploding. What can we preserve to our next generation? What can we do to create a perfect world? By wiping out the tears, let’s find out the answer.

Lighting:
Different lighting styles are used in WALL-E to create the certain moods and feelings. A combination of side lighting and fill light from three-point lighting are likely used to imply a gloomy and murky atmosphere, the earth; everything in it looks smoggy except the movie WALL-E watches (possibly top lighting is used to suggest a romantic air). Meanwhile, things in the spaceship are bright, even illuminated; high key lighting must be used to emphasize the contrast between the earth and the space. 83 words

Reaction:
I find Wall-E fascinating, because it has a colorful story from a traditional romance to a dreadful prediction of the earth.
Without a dialogue, it graphically displays a solitary robot who desperately yearns for companionship; a small insect and a tiny green plant which he collected from the trash provide him a sense of community in a desolate place. Also he longs for romance—as he watches the video, WALL-E daydreams of holding hands with a partner. One day, to a lonely guy, Eve appears from a spaceship and a kind of predictable love story unfolds charmingly.
Another interesting point is an excessive indulgence life style in Axiom; people in the ship are entertained and spoiled by extravagant goods and newest technology. Through lavish pampering, people become obese to the point that they can’t function as normal human beings. I think the writer sarcastically lashes out at today’s luxury cruise. The irony thing is most cruise guests miss and long to go back “home”; whether it’s a seven days or a seven hundred years cruise, though they seem like a paradise. I wonder why?
Finally, the film has a strong voice about the future of our land, the earth. The film reminds me that a gloomy and depressing ruin is inevitable consequences; however, I was so delighted to see the ending with a glimpse of hope through green plants on the mountain.

Lighting
The movie "WALL-E" uses many lighting technologies to create romantic and comedic atmosphere. For example, when Wall-E takes Eve to his house and close the door to escape from the dusty storm, the room was totally dark first, then comes some lights and light up a little space, then comes more colorful lights and light up most parts of the room; the light contrast creates a curious and romantic surrounding in this mess space. Another example is inside the space ship scenes when the persons with funny shapes sit on the floating seats and rush by, the high key lighting makes a typical comedic atmosphere.

Reaction

The movie "WALL-E" makes a strong echo for me. I can't get rid of a sentimental and heavily mood after watching although the director is so nice who unveils the story in a brisk and funny way, and also gives the movie a good ending filled with hope. I am touched by the development of the core texture--the human fate, which is inside its funny and exaggerate shell. Wall-E, a robot, pursues his simple love firmly and bravely although he even doesn't believe he could success. I am shocked to see this humanized robot climbing up the space shuttle without hesitance just because Eve (his lover) is inside, and traveling all the way to space ship. In the movie this huge space ship is the final residential place of human--the host of the earth before but losing most of human personalities now; those persons are now enjoying the super high tech living, which they created enthusiastically as they destroyed their earth home seriously step by step. I am thrilled when I think how deeply we depend on new technologies now. What is our perspective future when we major so many wonderful and dreadful modern facilities? What a big joke it is when human being needs to be waked up from non-thinking status by man-made robots! The movie "WALL-E" indirectly remind us about giving up the feverish persuasion of modern things and coming back to simple and real human life.

Tightly framed
The technique of tight framing is used in the scene where Eve and Wall-E first meet. When Eve teaches Wall-E to call his name, the filmmaker uses a close shot for Eve, at the same time Wall-E is tightly framed in the same picture. Otherwise, in the scene where Eve is in Wall-E’s repository, Eve opens a lighter, the camera moves closer and closer to shoot Eve and Wall-E’s eyes. Here, the filmmaker purposefully entraps us to scrutinize that the flame is reflected in their eyes, and along with the flame flops, we take notice of the changes in their expressions and feelings.

Reaction:
Doubtless, the film Wall-E gives me a strong visual impact. Many scenes focus on comparing the filthy earth to the dreamlike universe. However, the earth is like a refuse dump: no blue sky (the atmosphere is full of pollutants); no life (a plant is discovered in a stack of garbage; a cockroach is Wall-E’s pet). But, in the spaceship, the robots live in a programmed world. The computers control is based on orderliness. Of course, any turn in the wrong direction can make the science fiction world become disordered and maniacal.

Simultaneously, the film Wall-E, gives me heartache. Some scenes and plots cause me to ponder. I wonder why a living plant becomes Wall-E and Eve's friendship symbol. Who can really predict the earth or even the universe's fate after seven hundred years? In the spaceship, the robots’ life is ideal and lavish, but I suspect that human beings wouldn't need this mechanical and hardhearted life. As the captain of the spaceship says, “The earth represents life; we have to return to the earth.” So, the earth is our root, any life is our hope. Otherwise, Wall-E gives the plant to Eve, and the plant is put into Eve’s heart. The small plant develops their love story, which left us in tears because we take notice of their effort to maintain the continuity of life. Hopefully, from the ending of the film, I get a new expectation that life comes again to the earth-the green plants scatter over the hill.

In the movie Wall-E they used framing technique to show the characters from all direction. The most framing that is use in the move is the loosely framing (a long shot-often suggests freedom) to show the movement of the characters and how fast the movement is. For example the part when Wall-E tried to see what happened to Eva (the white robot) and he was not show what happened to her. In that case the toke his bag and left for work and will he was going the camera showed how far it went. Another good example was when wall-e was in space filing freely and they showed earth from the fare distance will the spaceship was moving. The other frame that they use in the move are really good to but the get more effaces the use the loosely frame to make it look more lively.

“The movie wall-E”, a move that shows that to fall in love a person doesn’t have to express them feeling by telling that person or giving then expensive gifts. I really enjoyed watching the move Wall-E. The movie taught me so many things in different visions .To begin with, if you want to express you love; you don’t have to use your voice. For example in the movie Wall-E tried to show Eva that he was falling in love with her by showing her a video of two people holding hands and singing a love song and looking at each other’s eyes to read each other’s feeling .In the case Wall-E showed me that to tell the person you love him you just have to hold hand and look in to the eyes to see and feel the love. Secondly, not only living things have feeling but also non –living things have feeling to. By looking at the movie I realized that we should not only take care of owe self but also take care of the thinks that we use in our daily lives. Lastly, the most important thing I have learned is that, as human beings we a developing and polluting the earth so much that we will end up living on space as shown in the movie. The movie showed that people we living on space because the earth had no space to fit any human being and the whole area was field with dump only. By looking at how the earth population is going we might end u on space because we are polluting the earth so much. In that case before it gets any worse we should stop polluting the earth and live in a clean environment. Overall, speaking about the movie I just loved it and I recommend everyone watch it, so that they could learn something as how I have learnt it.

Crane shot and Zoom out

One of the crane shot techniques which was used in the movie comes when Wall-E is trying to get the red light on the flat ground and looks up just before the spaceship landing. The camera quickly moves down and provides an overhead of view of scene. Another technique used at the end of movie is zooming out. As the camera moves away from the “plant” slowly through from the city and over the green hills and the Earth, it shows no matter how bad everything gets, there is still hope.

Reaction:

Actually all of my family watched Wall-E and really liked it. Personally I enjoyed this movie because it was about life and love, which is very important. It was also funny, entertaining, and romantic. In fact, it had important messages for the population. After watching the movie I got a few messages, such as the importance of being in touch not only with the world around us, (keeping the planet healthy,) but also in touch with the humans around us (to keep the connections within our families and friends alive and real.) In our world of modern technology and consumerism these simple pleasure are most fragile, and when we begin to lose them, we begin to lose ourselves and our care for whom and what is around us. However, this movie remind us to think about what you consume, and where it goes when you are done with it, and think about the people you love and strangers around you. As a result, if we do not, we are alone in a world of trash.

Colour values

When Wall-E showed Eva his “treasures” at home, in the dim light, the dominant colour (include Wall-E) was dark brown. All those shadows and rust colours are the perfect foil for Eva, the high-tech robot. Eva’s glossy surfaced body was shining, and had reflection. Her white body and shining blue eyes were in contrast with Wall-E’s rust colour. Wall-E was almost faded in the background. It reminded us that Wall-E was in a forgotten place.

Reaction:

I truly felt that high technologies are distracting our attention from the real world. In Wall-E, people sit in the comfortable flying chairs, and their eyes only focus on their own screens. Because they don’t need to move their bodies, only use fingers to push the buttons, they become unmovable. They do the same things what screens tell them and can’t see what is happening around them. They speak with friends through the screens; even they are side by side. They don’t live, but survive in the artificial world, become part of it. Those are not the future that we expect, therefore, we should be aware of the side effects which are coming with the high technologies, and always be living human. --122 words

Tilting

The technique of tilting is used in the movie “WALL-E” where
Wall-e and Eve are dancing at the sky. Wall-e gives to Eve the plant, and she hugs him. Wall-e starts dancing because he was too excited and happy. Filmmaker uses vertical and horizontal move of camera. For example, during the dancing when Wall-e and Eve were falling fast, the camera followed them up and down. Tilting creates the joyful atmosphere. Also Tilting was used when Wall-e moved to sky after Eve. Trough Tilting filmmakers trying to show the strong feelings and excitements of atmosphere.

I was never interested in watching films about robots before, but the movie Wall-e strongly affected me. In the first part, the movie was silent, and it was hard to understand the main idea of the film. While, by the end you have the whole picture. I like the feelings and ideas they are giving to people trough this movie. They show that technology can make people’s life easier, but at the same time it makes them forget about the real world around them.

It was full of emotions and feelings. My favourite parts are when Wall-e was trying to safe Eve. Even he knows that he will be in trouble, he is going after her. The funny scene was when Wall-e was excited for being kissed. It was something unusual for a robot to have feelings. The part where he looses his memory and can not remember Eve made me sad. I liked the happy ending though. When Wall-e remembered Eve, and returned to earth.

Overall the movie is very motivating and educative. It shows the difference of natural human life which includes physical and mental activities, and the life without those. It kind of waking us up and opening our eyes to see world in a real way.

Color and Lighting:

The movie Wall-E uses light and color technologies to create dangerous and horrible environment. For example, the movie maker uses gray and dark color, and haze light that makes up of the earth loos desolate truly. So the whole scene looks terrible that affect audiences feel bleak

Reaction:

After I watch the film Wall-E, it not only brings me to tear, but it also makes me down in the mouth. The movie maker gives us a warning message that this situation could happen sooner or later if we don’t take care the earth.

In the movie, along with the lens zoom out, I see the desolate environment around the city: the vitiated air, the empty high buildings, and the muddy ground. All of these show us that the earth was trashy. Suddenly, I understand what the movie wants to say. In the movie, two robots full in love, and it seems funny. Nevertheless, it made me down in spirit because no survival in the earth except a cockroach.

Furthermore, the movie shows us that people live in the space ship in the universal because the earth was destroyed. I think this is a kind of illusion because it’s impossible. In the space ship, the people rely on the robots to do every thing. Thus, they lost their basic survival ability although they live in a supper modern closing world. But they are still missing the earth. When the space ship header sees a plant’s sprout, he decides to bring his people coming back to the earth. Thus, the movie has a happy ending.

However, the movie maker use cartoon to make this film so that everyone could understand even if you don’t understand English and no matter you are young or old. So, I believe that is the movie maker’s aim.

While I wipe my tear, I think we (everyone) should take responsibility to protect our earth to reduce pollution, and make a good condition for our next generation.

The movie ''Wall.E'' got me a shock. I feel guilty toward our earth and our natural resources which we consume in a selfish way.Because I admire nature and greeness,I feel disappointed to see our earth demolished and polluted in this movie.Also,Wall-e has a major role in the movie to attract the audience.Eventhough he is a robot,he has the characteristics of a human. He has a heart to feel and love with, and he likes to hold his partner's hand;all these identified him to be a humanized robot, and lead him firmly to chase Eve on the space ship. The residents of the Axiom space cruise are spoiled by the high tech living system. They are deprived of the human personalities such as:walking, thinking and feeling. They are waked-up and served by a man-robot.I was affected by the captain's words,''I don't want to survive I want to live.'' which means they aren't satisfied by the high tech. Then,we can assume that high tech doesn't offer them happiness, but it transforms them to such a kind of animal who just need to satisfy his instinct. They are deprived of the brain priviledges which differs us from animals. All human should protect our earth, otherwise one day we should find anothr planet to live in.

Lighting

Different lighting style are used in the movie ''Wall-E'' to create a romantic and comedic atmosphere. In the scene, when Wall-E and Eve introduced themselves to each other , there is lighting from above(top lighting) to create romantic scene .The is light just on them ,and all their surrounding is very dark. Also there is a bright light on the space ship (hight contrast). When Wall-E is following hastily Eve between the floating people on their seats, there is a bright light to illuminate all the scene.

The scene where they show heaps of garbage is a good example of under lighting. It is certainly frightening to see quite a of garbage that we make. The film maker seemed to be using these to remind us of the danger, even if it maintains a neutral expression.

Reaction:

Although Wall-E is not my favorite movie, I welcome the reminder it provides of the problems we face on planet earth. The scene when wall-E was busy up the mountain of trash for the recycling is a vivid reminder of the “garbage crisis of 19 century,” it is indeed, a curious paradox. In this generation, men have traveled to the moon and back. The latest-of-the-art Satellites equipped with high-resolution cameras have been rocketed thousands of millions of miles into space, sending back close-up pictures of distant planets. Man has descended into the depths of the oceans and located sunken vessels of ages past and brought back to the surface their treasured possessions of an era long forgotten. On a few tiny silicon computer chips no larger than a man’s fingernail. The text of the entire bible can be recorded for instant replay. Yet, at the same time, the people with this treasure trove of ability and intelligence can not take out their own house hold garbage and dispose of it properly, thereby freeing their generation from the fear of being buried alive in it. That being said, I commend Andrew Stanton (the film’s writer and director) for making wall-E do a fine job of recycling the waste. Although I am not really keen about movie, I think it is a reminder of our global plight; it is something that is note-worthy.
