Lennie’s Dependence

In the scene at the boss’s office it is easy to see how dependent Lennie is on George. For example, when George removes his hat, Lennie does as well. Lennie looks at George repeatedly, searching for cues on how to behave. In fact, the unusual behaviour of Lennie (including his not saying anything) strikes the boss as odd and makes him suspicious of George’s intentions.—65 words

Lennie’s Power
In more than one scene, Lennie looks that he has a strong physical power though he is a dependent man. For instance, when Gorge encourages him to kill Curley, he shows to all that his hands are very harsh that they are about to kill Curley. Also, in the scene when he tries to put his hands on the mouth of Curley’s wife just to avoid her of screaming, we conclude that his power is very strong which makes the lady not to breath and die.

Lennie’s Dream

In the scene where George and Lennie sit around a fire and talk about their dreams about having their own farm, Lennie can’t help reaching his arm and touching George’s shoulder now and again while he passionally ask George to tell the details about his rabbits in their farm. The Loneliness of Curley’s Wife

The loneliness of Curley’s wife is obvious in this film. Almost in all scenes where she appears, she is always forward to talk with others, and while she is talking, usually she gets something in her hands to toy with such as the lace of her skirt, her handkerchief and so on. All these help to communicate the woman’s vacuity and desire of talking with somebody to the viewers.

Lennie’s Frightening character

In a few scenes, Lennie appearances frighten other characters. For instance, the opening scene shows a woman who is horrified because Lennie touched her dress and won’t let go, running. Another example of this is when the black guy trembles from fear when Lennie tries to touch his head. From other characters reactions toward Lennie in some scenes, we can tell that Lennie is a fearsome character.

Lennie is a big guy, tall and strong. Unfortunately, he is retarded and his mind is like a kid .As George throws his dead mouse away, he cries on a piece of wood like a baby. When George tells him he could own his rabbits and tend them, he is very happy and his eyes sparkle with joy and excitement. Although Lennie is sometimes slow in understanding, he still can be a good company.

Poor Candy

In the scene when one farmer suggests Candy killing his useless dog, it is easy to see how he loves his dog. He caresses it and repeats saying “I couldn’t do that”. As the dog is being taken out of the bunkhouse, he lies on his bed quiet, but his heart is bleeding. Candy is an old , one-handed lonely man ,but he has a tender heart.

Lennie and George

Lennie and George, both, are dependent. Lennie depends on George’s intelligence, and George depends on Lennie’s power in those economic depression days. He will help him to find job in the field because of Lennie’s huge figure. George and Lennie become friends until Lennie does a great mistake. Their relationship is stronger than George lets mad Curley tortures and lynches poor, childish Lennie. He decides to kill him by himself, making the journey’s end for Lennie comfortable.

Curley’s Wife

She has no identity. All know her because she is Curley’s wife, and this fact made me sad. She is looking for communication, yet she doesn’t know any communication without using her sensual body to show. The men are in their world, some staring at her like Lennie, and some feeling pity like George and Slim or Candy. Her husband is a useless, senseless man that even doesn’t speak to her. She hangs on men to maybe means herself, but her loneliness never ends.

George: an elder brother

At the beginning of the film, Lennie and George were escaping because someone were running after them. We can see that Lennie was not running as fast as George so had to stop and h.elp him. This scene shows us that George always protects Lennie like an elder brother and won’t give him up in such a bad situation even it will involve him into danger.

Carlson: an unsympathetic person

Carlson didn’t appear many times in the film. Two main scenes for him are both about Candy’s old dog. He didn’t like the dog and forced Candy to kill it. Finally he killed the dog by himself though Candy felt so sad. We can know from it that Carlson is an unsympathetic person and ignores other people’s feeling.

Lennie's child smile and mind.

Lennie is bigger and stronger than George and has the mind of a child. Of course he has a mental disease that he could not decide a good consideration, judgment, understanding then the other normal people. However, Lennie follows his friend George very much and George helps him too. Also lennie loves to talk with people. When he talk with someone, the beautiful smile will exist on his lips(W-69)

During the movie time, I could not see Curley's smile. Curley always get angry from tha worker and always shout to the people. His wife does not love him ,so nobody likes him even his father. He always has dissatisfaction to everything. Nobody wants to talk with him, nobody likes his behaviors.(W-53)

Lennie’s character:

Lennie has characteristics of a child. The conversation between Lennie and George is just like a parent talking to his child. “I spend all my time telling you things, then you forget 'em.”George got frustrated about Lennie. He tried to tell him a lot of things that Lennie always forget except one single thing: the rabbit. Lennie loves small animal, he kept a dead mouse in his pocket and petted it. After George throw that dead mouse away and he cried. When George commend Lennie to the new boss “he is strong as a bull”Lennie could not help laughing during the job interview. Just notice here, Lennie’s full name is Lennie Small, and he actually is a big guy, the author tried to make the character a little more fun.

Carlson’s Character

Carson is the guy I dislike the most. He has a very cruel and lack of humanity and compassion. He is one insisting to shot the dog regardless of Candy’s cry that he has this dog since a puppy and they herded sheep together. The reason is only the “dog stinks”. Carlson is also pushy. When Candy suggested shooting the dog tomorrow, he took the gun and insisted to do it right away. He is also phony, he suggest that Candy can get new puppy from slim to pet, and he knew that Candy only wanted his own dog. Why a new born puppy is acceptable and old one isn’t. He also is a jealous guy. Since all the guys working on ranch are lonely and have nobody to give a damnn, but Candy has the dog as companion. It irritated Carlson.

A NEW LANGUAGE

Learning a new language is has been one of my goals in life. I began to learn English when I was in secondary school. Since then, I have continued studying English. I think I almost achieve my goal about learning English if I consider the past experiences in my classroom, the expectative I have now and how I visualize English will help me in my future.
English class was always my passion. When I was 15 year old, instead to have a party, I paid and English course in United States. The teacher was terrific, and I tried to do my best as a student. When the course came to the end, my classmates chose me to buy a present and a thankful card for our teacher. I went to the store, and I bought a beautiful card with a nice short legend, that I translated into Spanish: “friendliness to win everybody’s affection.” It was the perfect card for our teacher, I thought. When the day came, all my classmates signed the card and we gave it with the present to the teacher. At first, she was speechless and she blushed her face, than she began to laugh and said –it is the first time my students give a card like this- then, she read the legend out laud: “With Sympathy”. This was a shameful, but funny experience about my English classes. I would never forget it.
Pursuing my goal to learn English, I registered in English 11 course, where I expect to learn how to speak more fluent. It is easy for me to read and understand English, but not to speak fluently. Most of the times, while I am speaking, I began to structure the phrases in order to speak correctly. That makes me feel not confident about the way I talk. Besides, I expect to increase my vocabulary and the Canadian idioms. I expect to make different activities during the class with my classmates, where I can learn not only English, but about my classmate’s lives. Last, I would like to have fun; I always have thought that if we have fun while we are learning, we are not going to feel the class is hard and boring. I am positive that English 11 is going to improve my English and my life.
Although, learning English began as a hobby for me, it turned into a necessity in my life. When I came to Canada, I realized that if I want to succeed, not only professionally, but also socially, I needed to learn this idiom very well. I think the future caught up me, now I am living in Canada and is a priority to learn its language. The more I am training, more opportunity I have to find a good job in my professional field. As an architect, not only need to learn daily language, but technical terms. I am sure will be an asset to learn English as much as possible that will open me doors to have a better job and integrate into Canadian community where I live now.
As an immigrant, I thing the best way to succeed is learn the country language where you move into. Moreover, it the best way to be grateful with the country for receives us as immigrants, no matter where we come from. In this very moment, I am glad that study a foreign idiom was one of my goals in life since I was 15 years old. Ever since, I enjoyed English classes, and I had have the opportunity to continue learning something that passionately likes me and makes me happy, and most of all, English is, and it will be a great help in my near future, and one of my goals in life.

LIFE AND DEATH

In this poem, “Return Baggage,” Wislawa Szymborska feels deep sorrow for the infants that could never accomplish what every body expects about life: to be born, to grow, to reproduce and to die. In more of her stanzas, she describe the things those kids would not be able to do and see because of their death. In the second stanza, she writes:
Here lie little Zosia, Jacek, Dominik,
prematurely stripped of the sun, the moon,
the clouds, the turning seasons.
Zzymborska writes about those kids who had an ephemeral life. She writes about their tragic deaths: a fatal accident or a deadly disease “The happiness of skating on the ice” or “A spoonful of bitter knowledge—the taste of medicine.” She makes us imagine two things in a moment: laughs and joy; and screams and pain, life and death.
