On Writing Poetry

“Nothing’s a gift; it’s all on loan.”—Wislawa Szymborska

before you go
remember
writing lines
speaking words
our laughter
our silence
our pens
searching

voice your poems
our eyes our ears
will listen

hear your words
for the first time
on tongues on breath

remember
destroying silence
keeping nothingness at bay

The 10th Anniversary

I lost you for ten years, my darling.
I don’t know where are you?
I can’t think of you,
I can’t forget about you.

I went to your tomb,
With the beautiful flowers you loved.
I sit there alone,
Trying to talk with you.

I dreamed about you yesterday,
You were sitting in front of your little mirror,
Putting your make up on your rose-like check.
You looked at me with your smile,
And tears sparking in your eyes.

Can you still recognize me, my darling?
I am an old, different man;
With dusts covering my face,
And my slivery-gray hair.

Spring

While I was walking down the trail
The green was filling in my eyes
Olive green
Jade green
Yellow green
All pop up from the branches
Dancing in the spring

Suddenly
Coo-Coo broke the silence
It was from the tree
Oh,a woodpecker was bouncing his head
I widened my eyes to
Try a close stare
So lovely

I remember
Last year
Walking down the same road
Seeing the same scene
Again,spring brings new lives
Fresh and clear

I was struck
Time slips away
Don’t let me know

Baby, How Much We Love You

Oh! Baby, do you know how much we love you.
When we first listened to your heartbeats,
How excited we are!
When we first saw you from ultrasound,
How touched we are!
When we first felt your moving in your mum’s abdomen,
We can’t help crying.

Oh! Baby, do you know how much we love you.
Although your mum is suffering from discomforts,
She believes it is deserved to do that.
You are her angle.
She is willing to do everything for you.

Oh! Baby, do you know how much we love you.
Although we are not rich enough to provide all best things in the world,
We believe we will try our best to provide the best we can.
You are our treasure.
We will protect you and let you be happy forever.

Mother Day

On Mother Day,
Sun ,shinning.
Music, pleasing.
Mother ,smiling.
Dad, busying.

On Mother Day,
My little angle girl,
A present for me:
Her pink hand print.
Her hand ,so tiny and small.
For me to place upon the wall.
So I can watch as years go by.
How she has grown her hand and she.

On Mother Day,
My tears down,
Happy and grateful.
Thanks the Lord ,
Granted me sweet girl
And understanding sweetheart.

Happy mother day.

A Flower Bed in Our Backyard

Ian digs, Vivian ploughs, Kevin shovels,
They are claiming a garden of their own;
Johnny observes, Josephine circles, Yogurt sniffs,
What will the yard look, after these?

Weeds out, compost petted, rocks lined,
A patch of garden begins;
Tree stands, shrub shades, ground covered,
This is what the lawn will be transformed.

Hands soiled, faces stained, pants grassy,
A new experience explored;
Lavender purple, Fuchsia pink, Daisies yellow;
The bed of new generation is growing on.

The Earthquake in China

The earthquake is a giant robber,
Depredated thousands of being’s life in minutes,
Greedily and atrociously.

Children came to schools as happy deer,
Clear reading voice stopped by wild howling,
Sweet smile transferred into horror-struck face.

Buildings collapsed as domino,
Earth opened mouths as huge tigers,
Blooding faces, struggling limbs, and cold bodies under the ruins,
Billions of people’s hearts were broken.

Cinquain

Spring’s here
Standing on the deck
Feeling the fresh vigor
The waves of heat and songs of birds
New life

Flowers
Sprouting green leaves
Fancy and exotic
Bees and butterflies flying around
Winsome

Ship

Hard body and brave
Go fast toward the war
Be injured by the heavy fire
honour

Fashion body and excited
Go slow toward the world
Be happy by the beautiful scenery
Relaxation

Old body and retired
Go nowhere toward the people
Be showing by the special history
Respect

Snow

She came down from heaven silently.
She flies along with the wind swiftly.

Dance, dance, dance on the tree top,
Walk, walk, walk along the path,

Decorate the brick wall,
Paint the house roof

All of a sudden,
the world becomes bright under the moon light.
Red, yellow, green all the colors faded into only white.

My Childhood (Cinquain)

when grown up
remember
past
sweet
and pure childhood

in spring
take off shoes
and catch tadpoles
pluck wild flowers
and weave wreaths

in summer
run in the lawn
and chase butterflies
stargaze at the sky
and count stars

in fall
climb trees
and pick wild fruits
hide in haystack
and play hide and seek game

in winter
pile snow
and make snowman
sit around the stove
and listen to the radio

no toy
no TV
only the mother earth
largess endless delight
in my deep memory
