The most important conflict in this story is about returning the horse stolen by Mourad or not. In fact, this is also a battle between the reputation of Garoghlanian family and two teenagers’ eagerness of riding the horse. Even though Garoghlanians are "poor" and have "no money", stealing is not permitted for them. Just like Aram said, his family “had been famous for its honesty.” On another hand, Aram and Mourad all love the horse so much that they give the name of the horse - “my heart” and hope to keep the horse hidden in “the barn of a deserted vineyard” because of their “longings” about riding. Finally, the horse is returned to the poor farmer, John Byro; the conflict is resolved because there is no harm: “pay no attention to it”.

The rising action of the story is when Mourad's cousin realizes that Mourad has stolen a horse. It is found out that the horse was stolen a month ago. The right thing to do would be to return the horse immediately. Mourad's cousin wants to keep the horse longer, so he can learn how to ride. The main climax of the story is when the owner of the horse catches the two boys with the horse. Since their family has a reputation of being honest, John Byro doesn't think it is his horse. The solution of the theft is the horse is returned. Stealing is wrong especially when it isn't a necessity.

The most important conflict is about how to get the balance between their passionate to the horse and the guilt feeling for stealing the horse since they are the generations of the "Garoghlanian family". The narrator and his cousin cannot avoid the tempt of riding a horse, that also is the narrator’s “first longing”, but they cannot buy a horse, because they are “poor”, they are “poverty-stricken”, so the cousin takes a horse from other farmer’s “barn” and “hide” the horse for many weeks. At the same time, they know what they are doing is not a good behavior; especially they are “Garoghlanian” and “famous for their honesty”. This internal conflict let them ride the horse happily every morning and hesitate about when they will return the horse to the owner.
For solving this conflict, first, they try to believe that “stealing a horse for a ride” is different with real stealing, except them “offered to sell this horse”, but they “would never do”. Then, they effort to make a plan to return the horse.

The most important conflict in this story is between taking the horse back and hiding it.

It is really difficult to return the horse for Aram and Mourad because they dream of riding on a horse. However, they were too "poor" and "poverty-stricken" to buy a horse. Thus Mourad brought out a horse from the barn of a farmer and both boys hid it in order to learn how to ride the horse. They called the horse "my heart", and they let the horse "behave so nicely". "The horse is stronger than ever". Both boys thought borrowing something without permission is not the same as stealing. They tried their best to keep it a secret in order to uphold their reputation because the Garoghlanian family is noted not only for its poverty but also for its honesty. They considered "stealing a horse for a ride" was different from "stealing something else such as money". Therefore, they would not become thief as long as they did not sell the horse. At last, they returned the horse to John Byro and solved the conflict. Moreover,"there is no harm"; "pay no attention to it".
