Lack of Respect for Cashiers

When I worked at Tim Hortons as cashier, a young man, with strapping stature and short butch haircut, often came to buy coffee. When the guy ordered, he always bent very low and close to my ear, and said: “one.large.coffee; double.sugar; double.cream.” His behavior made me feel I was deaf and foolish.

I was puzzled by this guy’s eccentric attitude to me. Perhaps he thought I was a new comer and couldn’t understand him clearly, so he spoke slowly. Sometimes this guy bought coffee at the other counter and also treated the native blond girl with the same way.

His peculiar action attracted me to pay more attention to him. I found he chatted normally with his friends when they drank coffee. Therefore, I knew the guy just insulted us and did not respect for cashiers.

One time, another lean and tall young man with long blond hair ordered coffee with double cream. I made coffee according to his flavor and passed to him.

“Are you sure it is cream but not milk in coffee?” he refused to accept the coffee and inquired.

“Sure, sir, you can try it.” I replied.

But he still didn’t believe me and pointed to the cream container and shouted: “I think it is milk.”

The customers behind his line became very impatient and angry at the guy’s defiance because they also waited for a little long time. Meeting each customer’s requirement was my duty, so I made another fresh coffee according to his new appointed flavor, and then he grumbled something and left.

Maybe those guys think cashiers should serve them very well because they pay. However, in my opinion, if one person doesn’t respect others, he will not be respected by others. Thankfully, people like those guys are in the minority; most people are very polite and nice.

Inconceivable Medicine System

I have spine TB, and I had a biopsy on May16, 2006, so the BC Disease

Control gave me medicine sixteen months. Then the leader of the Disease

Control stopped my medicine. I asked him why he stopped my medicine

because the CT showed I was not healed. He said I was getting better, and

he also suggested I do not need the surgery.

Last week, my lower back was very painful, so I went to see the Disease

Control doctor. I asked the doctor, “ Can you give me some medicine?”

She said,“ I can not because you have stopped the medicine, and this is the

rule you have to have another biopsy to improve you have TB that I can

give you medicine.”

I could not understand why she said that since the Disease Control gets

patients from family doctors, and the specialists give evidence to help them

decide what kind of medicine they should give. Also, the leader did not tell

my family doctor and the specialist when he stopped my medicine.

It was unbelievable the doctor showed me the leader wrote on the computer:

The patient refused to have surgery and did not follow to check.

I knew he was lying, and he wanted to shirk responsibility. What could I say

and do at that time? I was shocked. Finally, the doctor asked me to see my

family doctor .

It is terrible that I had ever seen any medicine system like that. I still can not

understand why the Disease Control does not have the ability to improve if

the patients are healed but has the right to stop the medicine. Right now, I

really do not know what will happen to me.

Skipping Buses
One winter morning, my son and I were waiting for the bus. Usually the buses ran on the timetable, but that day the bus didn’t come the scheduled time. Even though we were worried about late school, we expected next bus after ten minutes. Twenty minutes passed! Still the bus didn’t come yet, so our faces changed anxious and angry.

But the buses saying, “Sorry, not in service” continued to come down the street. After another twenty minutes, the bus finally came. Some passengers told the bus driver, “ Why are you so late?” with frowns and hysterical voices. One stop later, the bus driver stopped the bus, and walked to the middle of the bus. He said, “It isn’t my fault. I arrived on time and I’m working overtime right now. You should let translink know the situation.”

We were late about one hour because many people had to transfer onto another bus or skytrain to get to work. There are many people at the bus stop every morning. Even though we don’t know each other, we recognize who are the same bus passengers because we always take the same bus at the same time every day.

While I was waiting for forty minutes , I was very angryand I felt miserable all day. I hope the buses operate on time especially rush hour. (227 WORDS)

Always Waiting

I can’t avoid seeing Dr. Yee, my family doctor since I am preganant. However, each appointment makes me crazy, because I have to wait for her at least one to two hours and then there is only few minutes talking.

After several appointments, I gradually figured out that she gets used to make three appointments at one time. That’s why she is always extremely busy.

One time, I spent one hour taking bus to arrive her office. Then, an hour and thirty minutes waiting, is it my turn? No, right befort my time, she got an emergent call from hospital and rushed out.

“Oh, my God.” I sighed deeply.

“When will she come back?” Another woman asked her assitant desperately.

“Please, calm down, but I don’t know the exact time that she will come back. Last time, she came back two hours later. “ Her assistant murmured.

I understand doctor’s time is precious, but how about ours? Who could think about our feelings? Especially, when we are sick and have to see the doctor. Doctor has her schedule, so have we.

Eventually, it took me two more hours waiting her back. How ‘lucky’ I was!

I have to accept the current sitiation, for my English medical terms are not enough and I hardly communicate with an English-speaker doctor clearly and fluently. Therefore, all I can do is waiting and waiting.

Walking a Dog

This is a beautiful park with a whole year green grass closes my house. Every time, when I take a walk at this park, I have to look down at the ground carefully because there’s poo occasionally on the ground and I don’t want to step on it. People like to walk their dogs here, but sometimes they don’t clean up after their dogs. It is the thing that bothers me.

On a sunny April afternoon, I took a walk there. A man wearing black gym strip was walking a small black dog in front of me. When he suddenly stopped and faced down the bush, I sensed that the action was processing. I slowed down my pace and looked at him, then at his dog—exactly, it is having a poo. The distance between he and I was about twenty feet long so I inched my feet to wait and see if he picked it up or not.

Thirty seconds passed; the dog stood up; the man pulled his dog, turned forward, walked away. He didn’t clean it up. He didn’t even look behind him to check if there was anybody there seeing him leaving a poo. All of it looked like there was nothing happened.

At that moment, I was angry. I think the dogs’ owners have the responsibility to clean after their dogs. Furthermore, here is a public area. Anyone who uses it also has the responsibility to keep it clean, so that anybody who comes here can enjoy the walking and needn’t worry about to step on dogs’ poo.

I am angry about that man’s behavior, but also I feel sad about myself, too. I really had an impulse to tell that man to do his responsibility, but I was stuck by my shortage of courage. What I did was just standing behind him and glaring furiously at his leaving with his lovely dog.

God Bless the American People

The night of June 4th, 1989—the full stop of The Tian An Men Protest, all the main students’ leaders were shipped out of China by the Americans. They left their classmates in the Tian An Men Square screaming and bleeding. Till today, I am unable to understand if they knew the Chinese government would take actions on that night, how they could escape themselves without telling their innocent comrades. Did they and their American friends really want to see the students to blood-wash the Tian An Men Square?

A young Chinese girl in America, walking among the students group to welcome the torch relay for Beijing Olympic game, suddenly took out a Tibetan Flag and shouted “Free Tibet!” Several strong Americans protected around her were lately discovered the agents of C.I.A.

Every year, millions of USD is offered to The Dalai Government in the name of bringing the “Human Right” to Tibet. So the protests happened this year in Tibet, Gansu and Sichuan in China. What about the “Human Right” of those people who were killed by the protesters?

Like how the Americans supported The Taliban and offered them the weapons to fight with the Russians. In each accident happened in China or any other places in the world, we can see the familiar, “friendly” American faces.

Do they really bother so much about what happened in other countries more than American’s own welfares? Or they really think they can play the role of God to be the judge for every country in the world? I detest the American government.

When people don’t like a government, they hate everybody from that country. “911” is the improper way to express the anger towards the American government, but only the American people suffered. God bless the American people!

More Avoidable, Secondhand Smoke

There were two men smoking at the mall’s entrance in this gloomy underground parking, while another woman was lighting her cigarette, joining them. The smoke of their cigarettes filled the poorly ventilated space, and I was the one who had to walk through the unhealthy aura to reach the door.

This is one of the scenes that I often encountered before this April, not only at the entrances of malls but also outside restaurants, and buildings. The trail of smoke always lingers around my nose and my mind for a long while. This is very unpleasant to most of the non-smoking people, especially to me. For it also brings back the unforgettable memories of how my father passed away.

My father passed away due to the lung cancer. Before he was diagnosed, he lived healthily till his 70’s. He walked the fields, climbed the mountains, and he drove as fast as he was racing. He was our giant, to his children and grandchildren. But he couldn’t fight the lung cancer. He was beaten badly, and was weak and heavily relied on the oxygen machine. Shortly, after a series of struggling treatment, he left us in the shock. Only eight months after his first complaint of chest congestion.

My father was an on-and-off smoker for decades. He had tried to quit, but unsuccessful, he passed away mostly because of the smoking. Smoking kills and secondhand smoke does, too. This is why I can’t stand somebody’s smoking nearby. Thanks to the BC’S “Tobacco Control Act”, the harmful effects and unhappy experiences will be more avoidable.

Losing My Airfare On Oasis Airline

Hong Kong Oasis Airline dried up after started the business only 16 months. Unfortunately, I have booked two-way tickets from Vancouver to Hong Kong for my son and myself. I must have lost my airfare on Oasis Airline.

Oasis provided cheap tickets for passengers. At the beginning, it attracted lots of passengers. The competition made the others airlines like Canada Airline, Cathay Pacific Airline reduce the price of their airfare to win in the market . It resulted Oasis losing its price advantage, and going toward to be closed.

After Oasis Airline dried up, the airfare price of Cathay Pacific Airline rose immediately. I have to say: competition is cruel in the market.

I heard the bad news on April 9th, but the Oasis Airline staff were still accepting tickets booking on the same day. There was not any clue that customer could be aware the Oasis was going to be closed. It’s unfair to the customer.

Then, where is the fair?

Uncomfortable Feeling

Every Friday when I went to Five Stars dancing academy where was located in Richmond, I had two different kinds feeling in my mind. One of the feeling was exciting , but on the other side, I was worry about a classmate, Eva, was a leader of the class. Eva always liked to give some suggestion for other classmates. I thought Eva was an enthusiastic person, but she usually used a strong tone of speaking or bad attitude to the classmates. It affected me to have a bad mood in the class.

One day, Eva said to me, “ you have a wrong action on your hands. Why do you change the action by youself.” I answered, “ I do not change any action. I still dance as the same as before, and the teacher does not say any words when I was dancing.” She was very angry with me because I did not change anything.

One the other day I got an emergency call from my friend, so I made a phone call to Eva before the class beginning. Eva yelled to me, “ why do you call me so late ? you have to call me early on next time. “. I wondered to hear her angry voice.

One time, Eva asked to one classmate, “ you do not pay the tuition this month.” “ I have paid it already.” the classmate answered. Eva said aloud, “ no, I determine you do not pay the tuition, so you have to pay on next time.” The classmate was cried at washroom because she does not have the receipt to improve she had paid the tuition already. .”

Many students react to the teacher, Linda, was a famous dancer in Beijing, but nothing was reformed about the leader of the class. I learned the dance just for fun, but my mood was always affected by the leader of the class. Finally, I gave up the class. I think someday I will learn with Linda on private class again if I have enough time.
